The 2013 South African Rotax Max Challenge kicked off with local drivers reigning supreme at a bright and breezy Killarney in Cape Town on Saturday amid all the regular fraught national karting championship action.
KZN star Luca Canderle was the man to beat in the incredibly tough field of DD2 gearbox class runners but was ultimately sidelined on an infringement, handing victory to Pretoria’s Ryan Frost. This is a great start for Frost to his national campaign having just recently moved up from the Super Rok class. DD2 Masters winner Leeroy Poulter won race 3, despite carrying the 7kg weight penalty (Masters class), and ended second overall for the event ahead of Chad Daniel and Justin Allison. Rotax DD2 is the fastest growing karting class in the world and this trend is showing here too with 22 starters on the grid.
