Heartache and joy

David Perel, Kyle Lawrence and Caleb Williams made it
through to the finals of the 2007 Rotax Grand Finals without
drama. DD2 favourite Lawrence was especially impressive
as he scored a win in his final qualifying heat this morning.
“I’m happy because we found a badly adjusted
float and loose power valve, so I’m looking forward
to tomorrow’s pre-final,” he said while relaxing
afterwards.
In Senior Max David Perel was in the thick of a huge
battle and took fifth, which became third when a few drivers
were excluded while Williams put in another steady drive
to finish his Junior Max heat in seventh place.
DD2 contender George dos Ramos was the innocent victim
of a first lap crash which resulted in his retirement
and put him out of the running for a slot in the last
chance race. Andrew Gatland was the other unlucky SA driver,
despite showing a good pace.
Zimbabwe’s Junior Max Chris Bluett made it to the
last chance race, but was the victim of a massive first
corner accident which put him way down the order and only
the top six went through to the final day. With a new
motor Gerard Peters (Senior Max) was much more competitive,
but it was a case of too late as he stormed to an impressive
ninth place but will play no further role in the competition.
