Michael Stephen - Multiple SA Champion |
The last round of the Northern Regions
SARMC events produced some exciting racing despite the
absence of some regulars, fifteen ROTAX DD2's provided
some nail biting action. The battle of the brands continued
with Arnold Neveling (PCR), Kyle Lawrence (Birel) and
Ralph Odendaal (CRG) at the front and the Masters battle
just as close with George dos Ramos, Gary Marais and Rocky
Gush turning in incredibly close times in every race.
Arnold took top honours, Kyle runner up while Ralph faded
away with loose wires. Drive of the day must go to Ronnie
Baptista who finished third. This young man from Klerksdorp
has been improving at an incredible pace and is really
becoming a force to be reckoned with.
The ROTAX Max Challenge became a fierce
battle for second place between Kevin de Witt, Bjorn Ganz
and Arnold Neveling as Ralph Odendaal made a break. Capetonian
David Perel, Matthew Hodges, Devin Robertson and Eugene
Brittz formed the next bunch.
The ROTAX Junior Max field although small
provided a cliff hanger with Trent Williams (PCR), Caleb
Williams (PCR), Axcil Jeffries (Birel) and Richard Napier
(CRG) doing some death defying stunts. Caleb emerged victor
in the end and the controversial Zwartkops Club Race points
system saw two very happy youngsters receive their first
trophies. Well done to Sebastian Mafuna and Phillipus
Nthai.
The Mini Max brigade as always produced
entertainment. Sean Frost (Birel) and Kelvin van der Linde
(Sodi) dominated the first two positions while an impressive
Eddie le Roux (CRG) mixed it with Jordan Pepper(Birel),
Bevan Williams(PCR) and reigning GP Junior National Champ
Aston Hare.
The first heat of the Max 175 saw Gary
Marais (PCR) and John van Wyk (Birel) have a good dice
finishing nose to tail. At the end of the day consistency
pays and John van Wyk took a clear win from Ingo Meyer
and Dean Mollet.
GP Juniors was won by Capetonian Marco
Bussi from Chad MacIver and Richard Upton. Morgan MaColl
and Bradley Taylor had their ups and downs with Taylor
taking third in the final race.
The Mini National at Zwartkops enjoyed
the out of town national competitors adding some spice
to the day. Reigning Super Rok national champion Michael
Stephen (Tony Kart) and team mate Simon Moss (Tony Kart)
from PE, Sean Le Reserve (Tony Kart) from KZN brought
the total entry up to eight karts. Michael Stephen showed
once again why he is a multiple National Champion and
2002 SARMC winner. Interesting to note that Michael and
Simon were still testing on Sunday afternoon long after
most people had taken off.
Kart.co.za wishes all the competitors
travelling to Cape Town for the SARMC Final on 8 September
2007 a safe and successful journey!
