Kart.co.za causes a stir

26.11.2007

We would like to thank the dealers for their rapid responses, and valuable input.

Firstly kart.co.za has no intention of misleading anybody, but rather informing karters so that they have correct information to help them make informed desicions.

Secondly we would like add the prices supplied by Piazza Motorsport today (Sparky Bright) which certainly cast a better light on KF2 and KF3.

Thirdly we are sure the Super Rok competitor will be overjoyed by today's dramatic price reduction.  Well done to Terry Moss for getting this right.

The continued publication by Terry Moss of a problem experienced in Australia with Rotax Junior Max cylinders, that has absolutely no relevance to the South African Junior Max engine, reminded us why the engine sealing system works - Australia ran for years without sealing, and are still suffering the consequences.  We have thus far also refrained from publicizing the negative sides of Rok for example: tolerances of 1.4mm on a cylinder height, or the total failure of Junior Rok, Senior Rok, and Super Rok in the UK,  one of the worlds most succesful karting markets.

The Rok engine was approved for the Brittish National Championship (Super 1 series), and the Junior Rok engine for the prestigious Stars Of Tommorow series.  Both managed to attract 2 entries before being axed.  Super Rok was replaced by DD2 days before the series was due to start, and ran succesfully . Please see table taken from the official Super 1 series website - http://myweb.tiscali.co.uk/super1/news.htm

Formula 1's are faster than A1GP cars and cost many times more.  It is none the less significant that many top young competitors in the world graduated through the Rotax Max ranks, including Dunan Tappy (UK Formula Renault Champion 2007, Formula Festival Winner 2005.) Callum  Macleod (UK Formula Ford Champion 2007.)  Greg and Leo Mansell (Sons of Formula 1 World Champion Nigel Mansell.)  Oliver Turvey, (McLaren Formula 1 test, Autosport Best Young driver Award, A1GP rookie driver), Our own Wesleigh Orr and Marc Murray are making names for them selves in the world of single seaters.  The same can be said for the CIK classes which have produced most Formula 1 world champions in recent years.

KF2 and KF3 will become National classes in many countries and the MSA karting commision commited themselves to this in Febuary 2006.  Super ROK was ostensibly brought in to bridge the gap in 2007 - it is now time to move on to KF2 and KF3 as was originally planned and decided by the Karting Comission.  The existing rok engines should be allowed to continue in these KF classes, with suitable weight/performance adjustments.

Rotax MAX classes remain unchanged and stable with little change since 1999 and continue to provide affordable and exciting racing.  The MSA Karting Comission, contrary to vicious rumours doing the rounds, agreed at their last meeting on 7 July 2007 that the Rotax classes would retain National Championship status in 2008, and run on Bridgestone tyres along with all other karting classes.  The events will be Cape Town, Port Elizabeth, Zwartkops and Vereeniging.

One last note: While resleeving is possible on Cast-iron liner engines, there is considerable cost in maching, boring, labour, running-in, resizing, running in, resizing, running in again, and there is no gaurentee that it the performance is ever up to scratch.
