There was a chill in the air, but nobody seemed to notice
or care as the racing kept minds off the minor details
like winter.

Ridgway
won the Final |
Max Challenge
Once again Max Challenge was a brilliant spectacle and
Birel driver Duke Ridgway kept his cool to bag the win
ahead of Mathew Hodges (Birel) and Chad van Beurden, the
youngest driver in the class, made it a Birel 1-2-3, but
only after they’d clashed in turn one and were lucky
to get away with only losing the lead. It was that moment
which gave Ridgway the win.
Fourth was CRG mounted Richie Napier with Kevin de Witt
(CRG) a frustrated fifth after winning the qualifying
heat and seeing his hopes dashed when he was shunted out
of the pre-final. A consistent performance gave Nicholas
Toner (Birel) sixth.

Alison
won the controversial Final |
ROTAX DD2
From a surprisingly large field, Justin Allison (PCR)
took the DD2 honours after a surprise win over pre-race
favourite and winner of the pre-final Ralph Odendaal (Road
Rat CRG).
Third was Birel’s George dos Ramos with Sodi mounted
Trent Williams just one point behind as CRG runners Ronnie
Baptista and Bjorn Ganz completed the all important top
six positions after Ian Young (Birel) was excluded for
unsportsmanlike behaviour, Christopher Frost being the
unlucky driver.

Axcil
Jefferies |
Junior Max
Castrol Toyota Birel driver Axcil Jefferies romped to
an easy Junior Max win after winning the qualifying heat,
pre-final and final as TonyKart driver Jason Georgiou
was runner-up in each final to take second place for the
day.
A good effort saw Eckardt Briedenhann take third place
in the pre-final and the points gave him third overall
for the day ahead of fellow CRG driver Shau Mafuna. A
poor pre-final result cost Ricky Hill (Rigidek CRG) dearly
but he showed good pace in placing third in the final
which gave him fifth for the day ahead of Naomi Schiff
(TonyKart).

Roman
de Beer won Mini Max |
Mini Max
Roman de Beer (Seef TonyKart) won the Mini Max final
after Kelvin van der Linde (CRG) had won the pre-final.
As usual Mini Max was full of action and at the end of
the day it was pint-sized Dewald Brummer (Birel) who came
through to take third ahead of teammate Ryan Frost, the
two being tied on points. Liam Venter (Birel) was also
in the thick of the action and salvaged fifth ahead of
Lyle Ramsay (Patch Tech Birel).

Taylor
took overall victory in GP Junior |
GP Junior
As always the 60cc GP Junior brigade put on a good show
and at the end of a nail biting day it was Michael Taylor
(Rigidek) who had a narrow two-point advantage over Nathan
Parkins (Patch-Tech). Parkins had won the pre-final but
Taylor took the all important final.
Third, after showing stunning form in the qualifying
heat, was Sheldon van der Linde who was tied on 80 points
with Castrol Toyota’s Morgan McColl as Shayur Harpal
and Connor Jones completed the top six.

John
van Wyk won Max 175 |
Max 175
John van Wyk won the Max 175 Class for Birel, but he
didn’t have it all his own way as similarly mounted
Cyril Atkinson won the pre-final and ended the day only
three points behind.
Third was Alan Bow (Birel), three points clear of Ingo
Meyer (Birel) while Kenneth Maciver was next on his PCR
as Corrie Liebenberg (CRG) got sixth.
