Randburg-based Jason Georgiou is a 16-year-old student at Four Ways High in Sandton and has been karting since he was seven, but started "proper racing" when he was nine.

Junior Max Winner 2009 Aston Hare

Aston Hare is just 13 years old, but he's already a veteran in terms of karting experience, not to mention having a string of titles he's accumulated along the way in a career that now spans nine years!

Junior Max Team Member Raoul Owens.

Raoul Owens is 15 years-old and hails from Cape Town. In terms of karting experience he has only been racing for four years so his rise to the top in the Junior Max series has been really impressive.

"I started racing at the Killarney circuit in Cape Town, but in 2009 I did my racing in Gauteng because of the extra competition. I also raced in Europe this year, where I raced in the Rotax Junior Euro Championship and I finished eighth, out of 50 drivers."

DD2 Masters driver Gary Marais

In winning the Masters' division of the 2009 South African Rotax Max Challenge, 40 year-old Gary Marais has earned his place in the 2009 Grand Finals at Sharm El Sheikh in Egypt, the first time he'll be kart racing overseas.

Gary started racing seven years ago in the 175 kg class and three years ago he moved up to the full DD2 class where the older karters race against the youngsters, racing at 173 kg total mass, although they compete in their own sub-division » more
