Getting Started
Budgeting for a season in karting
The table below assumes you need to get
a kart and some racewear. These could last you as much
as 3-4 seasons before needing replacement. There are also
consumables such as tyres, oil & fuel, and of course
spares required for breakages and tinkering with your
chassis setup.
Costs vary quite a bit between the various
classes; for example a PCR PV50 100cc engine, as used
in the F100 class, should be rebuilt every 250 laps or
so, while a motor such as the Rotax FR 125 MAX can run
for up to 3000 laps without a major rebuild.
We have tried to put together a sample
budget for kart racing. The example we have used is based
on classes using the non gearbox chassis. Estimates are
for a reasonably competitive team competing in approximately
12 events a year plus one day spent practicing for each
event. Spares listed include allowance for a reasonable
amount of breakages.
As you become more experienced you will
find you spend less money on spares and practicing … but
more on "go-faster" items.
